FIVB Men’s Volleyball Club World Championship
Doha, Qatar
3-8 November 2009

 Press Release
CIMED looking forward to its unexpected appointment in Qatar

CIMED won the Men’s Club South American Championships for the first time earlier this month
After an unexpected victory in the Men’s Club South American Championships, CIMED coach Marcos Pacheco is looking forward to how his champion team will cope with the best clubs in the world at the 2009 FIVB Men’s World Club Championships which will be held in Doha, Qatar from November 3-8.

CIMED, who qualified for the Club World Championships for the first time by claiming the fifth edition of the Men’s Club South American Championships on home soil in Florianopolis, Brazil on October 11, had not entertained the idea that they might qualify for the premier event for club Volleyball and Pacheco is anticipating a great challenge to get his players up for the week long tournament which also features Trentino Betclic (Italy), Zenit Kazan (Russia), Corozal (Puerto Rico), Zamalek (Egypt), PGE Skra Belchatow (Poland), Payakan (Iran) and Al-Arabi (Qatar).

“We knew that we would have difficulties to win that final and we were pressed the whole time, however I believe that we won because we had an efficient strategy,” Pacheco said. “Now, with the title, we will be face to face with the best teams in the world. I want to see how the team will hold themselves, since we will be making our debut in the tournament. The FIVB Men’s Club World Volleyball Championships was not in our calendar and for that, it will be difficult to us.”

Three-time Brazilian champions CIMED beat Brasil Volei Club, of Sao Bernardo, Sao Paulo (Brazil) 3-2 (25/19, 15/25, 26/24, 19/25, 15/13) in the Men’s Club South American Championships final and boast key Brazilian players such as setter Bruno, the wing-spiker Thiago Alves, the middle-blockers Eder and Lucao and the libero Mario Jr.
