Lausanne, October 13, 2009 — The beginning of the 2010 FIVB Men’s Club World Championship is quickly approaching for Trentino BetClic.

The European Champions will make their debut at the global event in three weeks in the Qatar capital of Doha, but before taking part in the tournament, they are required to play the first matches of their Italian League season.

So far, the matches played in Italy (three wins and one loss in four outings) have shown the qualities of some new players, including Cuban spiker Osmany Juantorena, Brazilian setter Raphael, Bulgarian diagonal player Tsvetan Sokolov and Italian national team middle blocker Andrea Sala. But the matches have also exposed the difficulties of immediately finding the right understanding between individual players.

Coach Radostin Stoytchev is well aware that it will take some time before his charges reach their ultimate potential.

“We have to work hard, these first official matches of the season are very useful to understand where and how improve our training,” says the Bulgarian. “We will have very little time to prepare for the Doha tournament: the Italian League calendar is very congested, we have to play every three days. Fortunately, however, before arriving in Qatar we will have four days available to train and become more confident with the new rule of the tournament, the Golden Formula (The Golden Formula requires that the first attack for each team begins from the back row). We hope to have a good tournament in Doha, and the aim is to reach at least the Final Four, but a bit of luck is needed.”

Currently, Trentino BetClic is free of any serious injuries among its players —  in recent weeks just the opposite Vissotto and middle blocker Birarelli have not trained with the team on a permanent basis, but their ailments have been taken care of quickly by the team’s medical staff.

In top form is captain Matey Kaziyski, the Bulgarian spiker who has always been the focal point of the team, not only because of his fame, but also for his great skills. In one Italian League match against Monza, Kazyiski bagged 8 aces in three sets.

Kaziyski and Brazilian Vissotto are enthusiastic when speaking about the Club World Championship and are anxiously awaiting the start of the competition: “Our dream is to win and complete a fantastic circle that brought us on top both in Italy and in Europe. Now we want the world!”
