FIVB Men’s Volleyball Club World Championship
Doha, Qatar
3-8 November 2009

 Press Release
New-look Trentino BetClic ready for Doha

Leandro Vissotto is pumped for the Club World Championship
Lausanne, September 16, 2009 — Italian club Trentino BetClic is in a confident mood ahead of its participation in the 2009 FIVB Men’s Club World Volleyball Championship in Qatar in November.

Having won the 2009 CEV Indesit Champions League in Prague on April 5, beating Iraklis Thessaloniki of Greece 3-1 in the final, Trentino will play in Doha as European Champion.

It was the team’s first European title and capped a successful season that also saw the team win the 2007/2008 Italian League.

Officials at Trentino said the chance to fight for the Club World title and succeed at the global level is a “very interesting opportunity” for the team, which will “gives its best to secure another international trophy.”

During the summer, Trentino has reinforced its squad with precisely this aim in mind, signing players such as promising Cuban spiker Osmany Juantorena, Bulgarian diagonal player Tsvetan Sokolov and Brazilian setter Raphael.

Another addition is Italian middle blocker Andrea Sala, from Montichiari, who played in Trento from 2001 to 2003. Compared to previous seasons, the team’s roster is therefore more complete and rich in alternatives.

The team is again coached by Bulgarian Radostin Stoytchev, and will participate not only in international competitions like the Champions League and the Club World Championship, but also in the Italian National League.

“We can go far in all the competitions,” said Stoytchev. “This year’s squad has the capacity to fight on equal terms against anyone. The tournament in Doha is very attractive, but also difficult, because we have only a short time to get ready for the event. The first matches of the round will give us an understanding of what level we are at compared with the other teams.”

Before the Doha Club World Championship, Trentino BetClic will play the first seven matches of its Italian League campaign, which will be very useful in bringing harmony to a team completely renewed from last year.
