 Press Release
Men's Club WCHs Drawing of Lots complete

Two pools of four teams will feature in the FIVB Men's Club World Volleyball Championship Doha 2009

Doha, Qatar, August 13, 2009 – The Drawing of Lots for the FIVB Men's Club World Volleyball Championship Doha 2009, which features eight of the world's best men’s Volleyball clubs, was completed in front of dignitaries, media and members of the international Volleyball family at the Ramada Plaza Hotel in Doha, Qatar on Thursday.

Egypt’s Zamalek, Dinamo from Russia, Puerto Rico’s Corozal and Trentino Volley from Italy have been drawn in Pool A while Iran’s Payakan, Poland’s PGE Skra Belchatow, hosts Qatar’s Al Arabi Doha and one more club from South America (to be determined at the beginning of October following a tournament featuring South American clubs) are in Pool B. The opening day's play on November 3 sees Trentino Volley (ITA) take on Zamalek (EGY) and Dinamo (RUS) up against Corozal (PUR) in Pool A followed by Pool B action with PGE Skra Belchatow (POL) up against Al Arabi Doha (QAT) and Payakan (IRI) taking on the South American champion.

The teams in each pool will play each other in a Round Robin format to determine the overall ranking and classification from 1st to 4th before the Semi-finals (1st in Pool A v 2nd in Pool B and 1st in Pool B v 2nd in Pool A) and Finals (the winners of the two semi-finals).

The FIVB Men's Club World Championship, which is back on the international Volleyball calendar after last featuring in 1992, will consist of a total of two rounds with 16 matches in total, including 12 Preliminary Round matches and four matches in the Final Round with a total prize money pool of US$750’000 on offer.

And for the first time in an FIVB tournament, a new rule will be trialed. The Golden Formula playing system requires that the first attack for each team begins from the back row in an attempt to produce longer rallies.

The FIVB Men's Club World Championship will take place in the Aspire Zone in Doha from November 3-8, 2009.
