“We defeated one of the teams dealing with the Golden Formula the best,” said Belchatow coach

Belchatow players celebrate victory

PGE Skra Belchatow (POL) coach, Jacek Nawrocki
“We concentrated really hard in today’s match, especially after watching Iran’s performance yesterday against Cimed. I think Iran is the best team in this Championship considering their attack and their use of the new Golden Formula rule. Congratulations to the Iranian coach who prepared his team perfectly for this format of play. Iran is well known of their unique style. The way they played against Cimed was excellent. We played our best and won the points mostly in serves and blocking.

“Every tournament is different and we have to apply different strategies. The FIVB should consider the time schedule of this tournament to make sure it doesn’t coincide with national team or league commitments; this will help the tournament to grow. Each continent should have a representative in this Championship.”

Captain, Mariusz Wlazly
“After seeing the Iranians beat the Brazilian team, we were really afraid at the start of this match. Iran has adapted well to the Golden Formula, but we have not had much time to practice and implement this rule. After the European League, we had just one week of training, and managed just four training sessions before coming to Qatar, so we were fortunate to succeed today.”

Paykan Tehran (IRI) coach, Alireza Moameri
“We watched the video the Polish team’s match yesterday and planned our game with this in mind, but they were much stronger than us. Our players tried their best. In the third set, I made three substitutes to allow our key players to rest for tomorrow’s crucial match against the host Al Arabi, and we hope to play our best match against them.

“Some of the Al Arabi players are very well known to us, we know their strengths and we will use special tactics and prepare accordingly. Our aim is to qualify for the semi-finals and play our best volleyball. In future, if this Championship could invite more clubs, perhaps 12, it would be an ideal Championship.”
