Head Coach, Jacek Nawrocki
My consolation to the Brazilian team, we in Poland share the same passion of volleyball as like the Brazilians and we have a great respect for their team. Brazil had to win this match to stay in the tournament, which created the pressure on them; at times pressure can get you through but on other occasions it can put you in worst situations. We tried to use the pure volleyball element of sheer tactics and skills against them.
I am not really happy with our blocking today, but fortunately the defense covered us up and we won the match. If we had lost this match, Brazil would have been through and they would surely be the top favourite contender for the title.
My basic philosophy for volleyball is to minimize errors, but we had to take risks in this match and as a result we lost too many serves especially in the second set. Later, we tried to calm our nerves and got back in the game. In the semifinals against Zenit Kazan who are very strong in their serve and attack, we will try and restrict them and make sure they don’t make full use of their strength.
Captain, Mariusz Wlazly
I am glad that we won today against one of the best side in the world. It was expected to be a tough match as the Brazilians had to put everything in this match to qualify for the semifinals, but we were equally determined to win.
Now we are trying hard to get use to the golden formula and managing to keep the same strategies and do as best as we could to win in every match we play here.

They are a strong team and it was a very tough match, infact, a great match, they fought really well and put us in a difficult situation on numerous occasions, they deserve this win. Block and defense is their (Poland) strength and according to me that made the difference. I can’t blame the formula for our defeat, all the teams are playing in this same formula, we just had little time to practice in this format and which is not really the characteristics of the Brazilian volleyball. We are the South American Champions and this is pretty satisfying for a young team like ours.
It was the first time we played so badly in a championship for the simple reason we were not full prepared with the new formula. All-in-all, we done our best to play in this format of the game.
Captain, Bruno Mossa Rezende
I am very disappointed, as it is really bad for Brazil’s reputation that we lost in the pool matches and failed to qualify, but we will try to overcome this defeat and improve our performance for the future championships. For sure, we could have qualified if we had recorded a win in this match, the Polish team played really well and they overpowered us with this new formula. I am not sure if this formula will continue long enough with the FIVB, but we were slowly and steadily adapting ourselves to it and had very little time to practice. If the formula was implemented in the South American Championship we could have got use to it and might have played much better. At this level of competition we can’t expect any individual errors. Block and defense is the key in this format, but we performed below par. Personally I wish the Polish team all the best in their semifinal match.
