Belchatow dismisses hosts in straight sets

Kurek Bartosz was an excellent attacking weapon for Skra Belchatow

Doha, Qatar, November 3, 2009 - Skra Belchatow of Poland overcame a sluggish start before completely outclassing the host team Al Arabi of Qatar in straight sets 25-22, 25-11, 25-20 in the first match of Pool B of the 2009 Men’s Club World Championship here at Aspire Zone indoor hall in Doha, Qatar on Tuesday.

Al Arabi of Qatar started the match using the well known tactical service of Ahmed Abdel Hay that put them ahead 3-0 but quickly Belchatow fought back through their middle blocker Daniel Plinski who stopped all the wing attacks of the Arabi team.

Al Arabi maintained their lead using the skillful combinations of Abdalla Ahmed until the Polish team used the service of Stephane Antiga and Miguel Falasca to fight back and sneak the set 25-22.

The second set saw the host prodcue many reception mistakes and the potent serving game from Skra Belchatow gave them a comfortable 8-3 lead at the first Technical Timeout (FTT). When the point deficit increased after the second Technical Timeout (STT) Jacek Nawrocki, the coach of Belchatow, made a number of substitutions, saving most of his top side as Skra Belchatow went on to win the set 25-11.

Al Arabi reorganised their reception and backline defence in the third set and built up an offence through Abdel Hay and Mohamed Jumah to lead 8-6 at the FTT. However, Belchatow soon reacted through Antiga and the block of Marcin Mozdzonek to lead 20-16. Again, with so many reception mistakes, it was difficult for Arabi to stop the Polish team who succeeded to win the set 25-20 and the match 3-0.
