Doha, Qatar, November 8, 2009- Trentino BetClic of Italy kept the name of the world club kings purely Italian for the fifth time in a row after they overwhelmed PGE Skra Belchatow 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-19) in the final of the 2009 Men’s Club World Championship here at Aspire Zone indoor hall in Doha, Qatar on Sunday. Belchatow becomes the first Polish club to be in the podium of the prestigious championship that returned back to action after 17 years gaining the silver Medals. Zenit Kazan of Russia returned back to the podium after 20 years when CSKA Moscow gained the silver in 1989 following their victory over Paykan of Iran 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-16).
The amazing solid block of the Italian team was the main factor to achieve the victory as they didn’t allow Belchatow to apply their attacking strategy all through the match. The middle blocker Emanuele Birarelli and Andrea Sala with the aid of the side blockers made it impossible for Kurek colleague to return back to the field after the thrilling first set. The tight block paved the way for the wings Leandro Vissotto and Matey Kaziyski to fly high and score from all the net positions and use the golden formula to their side. With his 21 points scored in the match Vissotto made the difference with the aid of Kaziyski who scored 16 points. Bartosz Kurek topped the match scorers with 23 points but he didn’t find the support from his team stars specially Stephane Antiga and setter Miguel Falasca who were out of their well known performance. .

As the Italian team couldn’t tolerate the Polish attacks Belchatow led 8-5 at the FTT before Trentino rebounded back through improving their block at the wings. The Italian team opposite Leandro Vissotto started to do a good job from position 2 as Trentino got the draw 12-12. Again the Belchatow blocker worked well against Trentino’s attacks and they went ahead again 19-17 forcing the Italian team coach to call a timeout that helped the team to lead 22-21. Emanuele Birarelli worked well again in blocking to give his team the set point at 24-22 but the Italian team made two mistakes to allow Belchatow to draw 24-24 before Matey Kaziyski scored the set point and with a spiking mistake from Kurek Trentino won the set 26-24.
Trentino has a strong start in the second set as they led 6-3 following sharp spike services of Kaziyaki and Juantorena to lead 6-3 and 8-6 at the FTT. Michal Bakiewicz started to emerge in spiking from the backline allowing the Polish team to come near gradually till they had the first draw 12-12 forcing Trentino coach to call timeout that made them regain the rhythm through spikes of Juantorena and Kaziyski and led 21-16. The Polish team struggled to return back to the field with the substitution of Antiga by the captain Mariusz Wlazly but the Italian team remained the superior side through some very talent attacks from Vissotto and Trentino made it 2-0 by winning he set 25-18.
The Polish team looked very disturbed at the beginning of the third set and they committed several mistakes in reception and attacks allowing the better Italian team to proceed towards their attacking strategy and they went ahead 8-4 at the FTT. The Trentino’s block reached their utmost organization through Birarelli and Sala and they widened the point difference to 16-12 at the STT. Belchatow coach changed his skilful setter Miguel Falasca and fielded Maciej Dobrowolski as the Polish team struggled to save the match but Trentino reacted by the tight block against Belchatow combinations and Kaziyski did a great reaction from the backline hits to widen the score again to 23-17. It was clear the Italian superiority in all actions as they won the set widely 25-19 and the match in straight sets
