Doha, Qatar, November 5, 2009 - Trentino BetClic of Italy kept their clean sheet after claiming their third victory in a row over Plataneros of Corozal (Puerto Rico) in straight sets 25-18, 25-13, 25-19 in Pool A action in the FIVB 2009 Men’s Club World Championship lasting 65 minutes.
The match held at Aspire Zone Indoor Hall in Doha, Qatar on Thursday improved Trentino’s win- loss ratio to 3-0 to lead the pool (6 points) while Corozal dropped to 0-3 to finish at the bottom of the pool.
Matey Kaziyski was the match scorer and scored 16 points while Victor Rivera and Ezequiel Cruz topped Corozal scorers with 9 points.
The first set showed different attacking strategies for the Italian team as they used the well known attacker Matey Kaziyski and Osmany Juantorina from position 4 but Vissotto took also a role in the opposite position with the middle blockers. Corozal tried to react but the Italian team didn’t allow them to go as Trentino won the set 25-18 in 22 minutes.
In the second set Trentino again had a better start as their middle blockers Andrea Sala and Emanuele Birarelli closed all the ways in front of the Puerto Rican attackers. Corozal players were also disturbed in the reception with the Italian team using the sharp spike services so they succeeded to win the set comfortably 25-13.
The Italian coach replace most of the main players as he reserved Vissotto, the main setter Raphael and the attacker Juantorena on the bench but they succeeded also to dominate the match in spite of the frequent trials from the Corozal’s attacker Thomas Mckinney. The Puerto Rican team struggled as far as they could and played their best in the match during the last few points as they struggled in reception and blocking but still Trentino had the upper hand to win the set 25-19 and the match in straight sets.
