Brazil takes title in five-setter against China
SUPHAN BURI, Thailand - Superpower Brazil stormed past Asian champions China to take the title in an heart-pounding tie-breaker showdown at the World Women’s Under-20 Volleyball Championship on Sunday. Brazil came from behind to seal the match 3-2 (22-25 25-22 25-17 21-25 15-10) before a capacity crowd at the Silapa-archa Gymnasium. Brazil moves closer to title on Day Seven
SUPHAN BURI, Thailand September 13 - Fired-up Brazil moved a step closer of winning their fourth world title after they stormed past Poland in a four-set thriller in Saturday’s semifinal to set up a showdown with China in the World Women’s Under-20 Volleyball Championship.
The Brazilians, who had mercilessly crushed the Poles in straight sets in the group round-robin preliminaries, got solid performances from their starting line-up with a particularly strong back court game.

South Korea topple Russia in thriller
Suphan Buri, Thailand, September 7, 2003 – Fired-up South Korea, demonstrating strong teamwork and well-structured and tactical offense, toppled tall and towering Russia in an heart-pounding hard-fought five-set match as defending three-time world champions Brazil marched on in the Women’s Under-20 World Championship on Sunday. In what could be the big match of the championship, both South Korea and Russia got solid performances from their established starters, but the former took the advantage initially thanks to a strong back-court game. As the Koreans fronted the fierce attack in the first set where they led from the beginning 3-1, hard-smashing Kim Min-Ji leaped to spike at the net, but accidentally fell down on the floor and had her right knee sprained. Suphan Buri, Thailand, September 6 - Strong teams powered past less-ranked rivals on the opening day of the 2003 World Women’s Under-20 Volleyball Championship with favorites Brazil mercilessly crushing Cuba in straight sets and Russia struggling to beat spirited Belarus in a hard-fought, 101-minute thriller.
Playing the day’s final match, reigning world champion Brazil kept hopes of landing their fourth world crown intact after they took a stunning 3-0 victory (25-19 25-21 25-14) over Cuba.

Draw confirmed for Championship
July 10, 2003 – The draw for the 2003 Women’s Under-20 World Championship, which runs from September 6-14, was confirmed on Thursday following the drawing ceremony which took place at the Songphanburi Thani Hotel in Suphan Buri. Asia champions China, Germany, Ukraine and Chinese Taipei are in Pool C, with Cuba, South American champions Brazil, European winners Poland and Turkey in Pool D. The group round-robin preliminaries will simultaneously take place at the 4,500-seater Silapa-Archa and the 2,500-seater Chaopha Gymnasium. The Netherlands will strut their stuff against Venezuela in the curtain-raiser on September 6, followed by matches between hosts Thailand and Algeria, Puerto Rico vs South Korea, Belarus vs Russia, Ukraine vs China, Germany vs Chinese Taipei, Poland vs Turkey and Brazil vs Cuba.
