General remarks about the team and about the
playing-style
- Performance in Complex 1 is good
and in 2 is average.
- Team seems to be better developed
than individual players.
- Belgium has the second best
scorer of the tournament: no. 12 Kevin
Klinkenberg (144
points).
- Good application of modern
scouting information.
- Technical and tactical adaptation
in playing actions.
- Efficient, fluent and quick
playing.
- Combination of universal playing
abilities and individual strength.
- Effective playing structures.
Serve
- Technical
precision and tactical efficiency adapted to opponent.
- The
players use a mix of the jump float and jump spike service.
- Major
goals are: tactical effect, no direct point, no mistakes.
Serve
reception
- Three players in
reception formation.
- Secure, but
sometimes instable reception; most faults (34) of top 6.
- Reception of
float services always playing with a kind of overhead “swimming”-technique.
- Before the ball
passes the net the players are in good position.
- In case of jump
serve by opponent: often impulse control or punch technique is used. The
position is low and the arms move down, sometimes to the floor, when the
ball is played.
- Application of
variants of other modern reception techniques, in case of jumping power
services.
Set/Attack
- Complex 1 and Complex 2
- The setter is
number 2 in best setter’s individual players ranking.
- Easy and quick
steps from starting position to target. During the steps moving with front
or with back in the direction of the net, depending of the situation.
Pivot by right or left foot.
- Adjustment by
little steps from target to playing position.
- Jumping with
take off of both feet or running and take off by one foot.
- Always taking
the ball as high as possible by both hands, sometimes one hand.
- Sometimes the
setter uses a left- or right-handed tip.
- Quick
and precise sets from nearly all the positions in the court.
- Effective
variation of setting: tempo and positions. Incorporating back row attack
in most of the combinations.
- Simply
structured attacks in Complex 1: effective set-distribution, with
high per-centage 1st tempo in the middle of the net, quick attacks to
middle player to player in position 2 and back row attack (“pipe”).
- In Complex 2,
effective variation of very quick and quick sets.
- Very
quick, almost 1st tempo set, to position 2 even when opposite is backcourt.
Block
and defense
- Compared to top
5 teams no superior blocking performance (no. 8 in teams ranking).
- Exception is
middle blocker P. Verhees, who is no. 2 in individual ranking of blockers.
- Tactical
adaptation of blocking based on statistics and tactical analysis of
opponent.
- In case of high
attack always trying to organize a three block.
- Different step
combinations, blocking position adapted to the play situation.
- Good libero
performance of Willem van Rentherghem (rank 3 in players‘ ranking).
- Well coordinated
quick movement in the defense system; no. 4 in teams ranking of best
diggers.
- Much
potential for improvement in the development of the whole action chain in Complex
II.
