London, Great Britain, July 29, 2011 – With preparations continuing for the Visa FIVB Beach Volleyball International, set to take place in Horse Guards Parade in London, Great Britain from August 9 to 14, those working on the site got a special visit from a nearby neighbour on Thursday.

British Prime Minister David Cameron took time out of his schedule to visit the venue which will host the one-off tournament in two weeks’ time as a test for the London 2012 Olympic Games which is now just under a year away.

The courts are in the shadow of Mr Cameron’s residence, 10 Downing Street, and despite a little disturbance from the construction of the temporary stadium this week, he said he is glad that the beach volleyball tournament is taking place at such an iconic location.

"I could hear the banging yesterday as they were putting up the temporary stadium outside my bedroom, so I was watching all that," the Prime Minister told British newspaper the London Evening Standard. "I'm not going to cut down the trees at Number 10 so I can get a better view, though there is an enormous temptation. George Osborne [Great Britain’s Chancellor of the Exchequer] has got the better view so he may let me into his flat for the night."

FIVB President Jizhong Wei was grateful for the visit of the Mr Cameron. "I thank the British PM to pay special attention to the success of beach volleyball at the London Olympic Games," President Wei said. "We are sure that the London Olympic Games will be a wonderful Games which will meet all the expectations of athletes and participating sports organisations."

A number of world class teams will attend the competition in a fortnights time, including 2009 FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch world champions Americans Jen Kessy and April Ross as well as bronze medallists from the most recent World Championship China’s Chen Xue and Xi Zhang.
