Women's World Olympic Qualification Tournament schedule unveiled


Serbia will need to finish within the top three teams to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games

Lausanne, Switzerland, May 15, 2012 – World champions Russia will face Thailand on the opening day of the FIVB Women’s World Olympic Qualification tournament while European champions and 2011 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix bronze medallists Serbia face Chinese Taipei after the schedule was released on Tuesday. Hosts Japan will meet Peru and Korea clash with Cuba in the remaining fixtures on day one of competition.

The tournament is set to take place in Tokyo from May 19 to 27 with the top three teams plus best Asian team booking their spot at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Teams will play each other once in a round-robin format across seven days, with four matches scheduled to take place every day. Additionally, there will be two rest days on May 21 and 24.

This will be the last chance for all eight teams to qualify for the Olympics with just four berths on offer.
