Pressure is on for Chinese tandem

Chen Xue and Zhang Xi have already won two events on this year's FIVB Beach Volleyball SWATCH World Tour

Lausanne, Switzerland, May 10, 2012 – Chinese beach volleyball duo Chen Xue and Zhang Xi have revealed that the pressure for them to perform at the London 2012 Olympic Games later this year is much higher than it was when they performed in front of their home fans in Beijing four years ago.

The pair famously sealed bronze at the last Olympics, stunning a world class field along the way but in the latest feature for the FIVB’s Road to London website, Xue and Zhang said they need to continue their good form on the FIVB Beach Volleyball SWATCH World Tour ahead of the Games.

“We enjoyed playing at the Olympic test event in London last August, to help prepare us for that amazing venue this year,” Xue said. “Even though we were playing in our own country in 2008 in Beijing, the expectations for us were totally different to this year. Now we have to continue working hard, playing better on the World Tour events before London and play as one in the Olympics and we will do well.”

They have started the 2012 season well, picking up gold at the Brasilia Open and Shanghai Grand Slam as well as bronze in Sanya.
