London, Great Britain, August 1, 2012 – Three of six men’s pools, each with four teams, will conclude round-robin pool play Thursday with the top two finishers in each pool automatically advancing to the start of single elimination play at the London 2012 Olympic Games beach volleyball competition at Horse Guards Parade in central London.

A total 24 men’s beach volleyball teams from 19 countries are competing in London and half of them will be the final group to finish three rounds of pool play Thursday in the purpose-built, sold-out 15,000-seat stadium on the grounds of the iconic Horse Guards Parade as the majestic venue also includes a portion of adjacent St. James Park in historic central London.

Among the many highlights in Thursday’s very important final day of men’s pool play action for the 12 teams in action will be the first match of the morning at 9 a.m. Netherlands’ fifth-seeded Reinder Nummerdor/Richard Schuil and Latvia’s 17th-seeded Martins Plavins/Janis Smedins. It will be the first meeting between the two as the Swiss are 0-2 in London while the Austrians are 1-1.
