Brazil's SESI-SP overwhelm Algeria's GSP to book semifinal ticket at Women's Club World Champs
Zurich, Switzerland, May 9, 2014- Brazil's SESI-SP held off feisty Algeria's GS Petroliers in straight sets (25-18, 25-12, 25-16) to book the last semifinal ticket of the 2014 FIVB Women's Club World Championship in Pool A match here at Saalsporthalle in Zurich, Switzerland on Friday.
The victory improved SESI-SP's win- loss ratio to 1-1 with 4 points to finish the pool stage at the second position after the leaders Volero Zurich who were in rest day after finishing their matches with a 2-0 record (5 points). GSP came at the bottom of the pool with 0-2.
Outside hitter Suelle Oliveira topped the list of the scores for the winners with 15 points, followed closely by opposite Ivna Marra 14. Middle blocker Fabiana Claudino finished with 10, including her key blocks each set.
GSP's big gun Zohra Bensalem leads her team scorers with 8 points ahead of both center Aicha Mezemate and setter Fatma Okazi 6 points.
GSP started the match in their best performance as they succeeded to arrange their backline defence to build up the attacks through the outside hitter Zohra Bensalem and the center Aicha Mezemate to lead 8-6 at the first technical timeout. SESI-SP started to use their middle blockers Fabiana and Barbara Bruch in the quick attacks from position 3 to decrease the point deficit till they advance at the second TTO 16-13. SESI controlled the match through their blocker beside the role of the opposite attacker Ivna Marra who scored 6 points in the first set including the sharp decisive spike that bring the last point in 25-18 win.
SESI started the second set with a better organisation as they used the spike service to disturb GSP's defence. Again the machine of points Ivna played a great role with her sharp hits aided by the quick attacks from Barbara to lead widely throughout the set. SESI coach started to make substitutions when the score was more than double 21-10, but they continued leading till they won the set 25-12.
GSP regained their concentration in the third set as setter Fatma Okazi used the better reception to conduct the combinations using the opposite Amel Khamtache and hitter Zohra as they went to the second lead in the match 8-7. SESI rebounded through the outside hitter Suelle Oliveira who scored frequently from position 4 beside the blocking action from Fabiana as SESI regained the lead 16-10 at the STT. With the frequent reception and attacking mistakes SESI led comfortably with the substitutes Priscila Daroit and Alessandra Dos Santos to win the set 25-16 and the match 3-0
