Ghana and Burkina Faso men proceed to 2014 FIVB World Championship Qualifier zonal phase

 
Ghana team claimed gold at Men's Pool D World championship Qualifier

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, July 27, 2013 - Ghana and hosts Burkina Faso advanced to the zonal phase of the Africa qualification process of the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship after finishing first and second respectively in the Pool D qualifier which finished in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso on Sunday.

The tournament saw Ghana, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast play off for two tickets to the zonal phase of the qualifiers to be held in September and October with each team winning one match each.

Burkina Faso defeated Ghana in the first match 3-2 (25-15, 17-25, 25-20, 19-25, 16-14) in a thrilling match lasting more than two hours.  The second match saw Ghana beat Ivory Coast 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-21) before Ivory Coast beat Burkina Faso 3-2 (25-21, 23-25, 25-20, 23-25, 15-11) in the third and final game.

The three teams were therefore equal on points with a win-loss ratio of 1-1, but Ghana won by points according to the CAVB regulations with Burkina Faso second and Ivory Coast third.
