Russia open U20 World Champs with hard-fought win

 
Lizbeth Sainz scored 18 points in attack against the tall Russian block
Brno, Czech Republic, June 21, 2013 – Russia came back from behind against Mexico to win their opening match at 2013 FIVB Women’s World Championship in Brno, Czech Republic. In a thrilling five-setter, the Russian powerhouse finally proved too strong for a hard fighting Mexican team (24-26, 25-22, 24-26, 25-19, 15-9). 

Kseniia Ilchenko topped the scorers with 20 points for Russia while Lizbeth Sainz was the best scorer for Mexico with 18 points. 

Despite of a hard-earned 2-1 set lead of their tough opponents from Mexico, the tall Russian athletes gained momentum in the fourth set (25-19) and never looked back. 

Mexico continue their U20 World Champs campaign on Saturday versus Bulgaria while Russia enjoy a rest day on the second competition day of the 2013 FIVB Women’s U20 World Championship.
