Volleyball celebrates World Women's Day in Tunisia

Control Commission President Touria Aarab celebrates World Women's Day

Tunis, Tunisia, March 8, 2013 - The 2013 Men's Junior African Nations Championship was a good occasion to celebrate the World Women's Day to celebrate the role of women in African volleyball.

The Control Committee President of the competition, Mrs Touria Aarab, brought together all the female officials, referees and spectators participating in the competition on Friday to celebrate increasing role of women in the sport.

Through its President Dr. Ary S. Graca F°, the international volleyball governing body, the FIVB, has been putting the spotlight on women as the corner stone of their families, who encourage their children to be involved in volleyball at a young age.

Aarab brought together all the women in the hall including the CAVB Technical Director Howyda Mondy, the two Tunisian international referees Aida Hlila and Hayfa Wafi, as well as the Tunisian TV channel’s reporter and all the female officials in the Tunisian Volleyball Federation.

She also presented all the female spectators with a flower to celebrate World's Day.

"Women are a valuable part of the sport of volleyball because as mothers we can do a lot for the sport with our children," Aarab said.

"I want to thank all the women present here for their great role in volleyball and I want them to do more. They have to accompany their children to volleyball halls and to follow them in training because we are the real future of the sport," she added.

The Men's Junior African Nations Championship is also a qualification tournament for the FIVB World Championship to be held in Turkey this year. Tunisia, Egypt, Rwanda and Morocco have already secured their vacancies to the prestigious event.
