St. Petersburg, Russia, May 27, 2013 - The FIVB (Fédération Internationale de Volleyball) announced on Monday a groundbreaking sponsorship deal with Japanese car manufacturer, Honda, who will become the first ever FIVB official partner for professional and elite volleyball and beach volleyball for the next four years.

This agreement is the first important partnership reached under the new leadership of Dr. Ary S. Graça F°. Honda, as the official partner, will sponsor major world class events such as the Women’s Volleyball World Championship Italy 2014, the World League, the World Grand Prix, the Club World Championships and the Beach Volleyball World Championships, which will be held in Poland from July 1-7, 2013.

This partnership is concluded under the FIVB Global Partnership Strategy, part of a wider FIVB Partnership Programme that aims to integrate a select few brands with exclusive rights across both volleyball and beach volleyball FIVB events.

FIVB President Dr. Graça commented on the agreement: “For the first time ever, the FIVB has signed a partnership with an international brand across both disciplines. This step represents a major milestone for the FIVB and it is part of the new era for the Federation following the success of our sport at London 2012. Honda will help us to accomplish our mission to ensure excellence in all aspects of the sport. The FIVB is committed to constantly innovating our sport to make it more spectacular, entertaining and engaging for fans, whichever way they consume the sport. Our aim is to provide sports entertainment for live audiences through all forms of traditional and new media platforms.”

Miroslaw Przedpelski, FIVB Executive Member with responsibility for marketing, added: “We are delighted with this new partnership with Honda. There are a lot of similarities between our two organisations. I believe that Honda chose volleyball because it is a professional, well led and organised sport. Honda’s brand awareness will be enhanced by association with our global and youthful sport which has strong family values. We are looking forward to working with Honda and helping them achieve their international brand objectives.”

Over the past few years, volleyball has witnessed unprecedented growth. At London 2012, volleyball was one of the top five Olympic sports. More than 10% of all tickets sold at the Games were to volleyball matches. The FIVB, with its 220 affiliated National Federations, is the largest International Sports Federation in the world.
