FIVB President visits Baja California High Performance Centre

FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° visits the High Performance Centre of Baja California in Tijuana with NORCECA President Cristobal Marte Hoffiz and General Director of the Baja California Sports and Physical Education Institute Saul Castro Verdugo
Tijuana, Mexico, October 31, 2013 – The FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° toured the facilities of the Baja California High Performance Centre on Thursday where he obtained a first-hand impression about the way the local authorities work with their young talent program.

Dr. Graça was accompanied by the General Director of the Baja California Sports and Physical Education Institute Saul Castro Verdugo, FIVB Executive Vice President, and Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, FIVB 1st Executive Vice President and President of the NORCECA Confederation.

“It is a learning experience for me, you keep learning new things every day,” Dr. Graça said. “I have seen other training centres around the world but this one is different because this is a state centre and it functions well, something to admire.”

Castro Verdugo presented Dr. Graça with tangible evidence of the achievements attained by local athletes in national competitions and the FIVB President had the opportunity to salute some of the players who formed part of the Mexican teams in the FIVB U20 Women’s and U19 Boys World Championships this year.

“We saw boys and girls training, working in their respective sports, preparing and I also took a look at the school they are attending,” he said. “This is what all the governments should do in all the countries, to pledge with sport, health and education.”

During the visit, Dr. Graça also visited the athlete’s village and had the chance to watch some videos of the competitions of the last National Olympics where the athletes of Baja California participated.

The FIVB President is in Tijuana on the occasion of the XXII NORCECA Congress to be held from November 2 to 3 preceded by a Development and Sport Management Seminar on November 1 for National Federations Category I and II.
