Ze Roberto in the saddle for more success

Ze Roberto has won three Olympic titles
Sao Paolo, Brazil, September 30, 2020 – Having spent his coaching career guiding teams to the podium, Brazil women’s coach Jose Roberto ‘Ze Roberto’ Guimaraes showed that he is still able to win medals himself.

The 66-year-old triple Olympic gold medal winning coach showed that he is also comfortable working with horses as he won silver in the over-40s category at the Brazilian Masters Equestrian Championship in Sao Paolo.

It was a successful event for Ze Roberto, who led Brazil’s men to gold at the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games, and their women to similar success at Beijing 2008 and London 2012.

“I am very happy, I never expected to be runner-up,” he said. “I just wanted to participate and finish.

“For me being here was much more difficult than an Olympic final. Equestrianism is technically difficult, and we need to be very in tune with the horse. I only rode the horse Hunter Massangana six times before the competition, and it ended up going well.

“It was incredible, a unique sensation, I can only be thankful.”

It was a memorable performance by Ze Roberto. He did not knock down any barriers and only lost points for exceeding his time limit.
