USA win third consecutive NORCECA title

 
The United States women's team claimed their third consecutive gold medal at NORCECA Championship after defeating Dominican Republic 3-1 on Friday
Morelia, Mexico, October 2, 2015 – The United States won their third consecutive gold medal at the NORCECA Volleyball Women’s Continental Championship by defeating Dominican Republic 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-18, 25-17) at Bicentenario Auditorium of Morelia on Friday.

Nicole Fawcett, who was named the Most Valuable Player, scored 17 points to lead four USA players in double-figure scoring as Jordan Larson-Burbach and Kelsey Robinson each contributed 13 points and Foluke Akinradewo chipped in with 12. 

Dominican Brayelin Martínez had a match-high 18 points, while Gina Mambru and Yonkaira Peña added 16 and 15 points, respectively, on a losing effort.

The winners scored on 31 turnovers by the Dominican side while committing only 18 errors on their end. They also held a 53-32 wide margin in spikes.

In bronze medal match, Puerto Rico defeated Canada 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-17) as Aurea Cruz and Karina Ocasio notched 17 points each.

All top-four placed teams qualified to the NORCECA Final Four Olympic Qualification Tournament to take place in the United States with dates and place still to be determined.

Also on Friday, Cuba defeated Mexico 3-1 (18-25, 25-15, 25-15, 25-19) in the match for fifth place while Trinidad & Tobago swept Costa Rica 3-0 (25-19, 26-24, 26-24) for the seventh position.
