Busy African Volleyball Calendar in 2015

Cameroon team will be among the favourites for the 2015 Men's African Nations Championship
Cairo, Egypt, December 21, 2015 – The African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) will have a busy year in 2015 full of continental events and participation in other FIVB competitions at all levels.

The 2015 CAVB Calendar includes 11 volleyball events at the age-group, senior and FIVB levels in addition to Olympic qualifiers for Rio de Janeiro 2016. The beach volleyball calendar includes the different phases of the CAVB Continental Cup, which also act as Olympic qualifiers, as well as the first ever African qualifiers for the Senior Beach Volleyball World Championship in the Netherlands.

The condensed 2015 CAVB volleyball calendar starts with the remaining three age-group championships. Tunisia hosts the Boys Youth African Nations Championship from January 19 to 26, and afterwards Egypt will organise both the Men's U21 and Women's U20 African Nations Championships (February 24 to March 2).

The African Club Championships will advance to March and April to fit in with the FIVB Club World Championships to be held in May. The Men's African Club Championship takes place from March 5 to 17, while the women's event will be held from March 25 to April 6. The organizers of both will be determined later.

In April and May, the Zonal qualifications for the 2015 All Africa Games will be organised to qualify 11 teams – both men and women – for the finals to join hosts Congo Brazzaville. Those qualification competitions will take place from April 15 to May 14 in the various continental zones.

The African Nations Championships will be advanced to May and June for the first time to adapt to the FIVB calendar, specifically the World Cups, which will take place in August and September. The Men's African Nations Championship is scheduled for May 15 to 25, while the Women’s Championship will be from June 10 to 20. Both Senior African Nations Championships will act as qualifiers for the World Cup. The organizers will be determined later.

It is well known that the 2015 FIVB World League Intercontinental Round will begin on June 12 and run to June 21, while the Final Round will take place from July 3 to 5. The men’s teams from Tunisia and Egypt will represent Africa in this competition.

The 2015 FIVB World Grand Prix Preliminary Round begins on June 26 and will run to July 5, while the Final Round will be played from July 10 to 12. Algeria and Kenya will be the continent's representatives.

The 2015 All Africa Games will be held in Congo Brazzaville from September 4 to 19 for 12 qualified teams in both the men’s and women’s categories.

The year will close with the zonal qualifications for the 2016 Olympic Games, as decided by the CAVB during the Zone Presidents' Meeting in Cairo on December 18.

For beach volleyball, 2015 will feature a busy calendar with around 40 national federations competing for an Olympic slot in Rio de Janeiro 2016 throughout four phases of the CAVB Continental Cup.

As per the FIVB’s decision to give each continent four slots in the 2015 Senior Beach Volleyball World Championship, the CAVB will organise continental qualifiers from February 14 to 22 to determine the African representatives.
