FIVB begins work to replace stolen FIVB World Championship trophies

The FIVB Men's World Championship was stolen, along with the women's trophy, in Brazil
Lausanne, Switzerland, August 23, 2013 – The FIVB has begun work to replace the two FIVB Volleyball World Championship trophies that were stolen Friday in Brazil.

The men’s trophy was scheduled to arrive Warsaw, Poland on Saturday for the opening ceremony, while the women’s trophy was set to go to Rome, Italy on September 23. However, this will no longer be the case.

Instead, the FIVB will work hard to ensure replacement trophies will be present at both finals of the World Championships in Katowice, Poland and Milano, Italy, ensuring the players will be able to celebrate the most important event, according to FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F°.

With its unique contemporary design, the trophy has set itself apart from other awards in international competitions across the sporting world.

Eichenberger LTD and their mastermind, Juan Franco, have been responsible for its production. The company specialises in complex metal works mainly for the Swiss watchmaking and jewellery industry. The conceptual design for the trophy was provided by Marco Heer of Achtung!, a creative agency known internationally for their work in brand development, along with two young product designers from Switzerland, Thilo Alex Brunner and Jörg Mettler.
