New Russia host World Grand Prix Pool H in Kaliningrad

Kaliningrad, Russia, August 14, 2014 - The Russian city of Kaliningrad is gearing up to host Pool H matches in the Preliminary Round of the FIVB World Gran Prix this weekend, when Germany, Italy, Russia and Turkey will compete for a ticket to the FIVB World Grand Prix Finals in Tokyo, Japan from August 20-24.

The four teams have arrived in the city of Kaliningrad and have carried out their first training sessions in preparation for this weekend’s matches, which start on Friday with Turkey playing Germany at 16.40 local time and Russia taking on Italy at 19.40 local time.

Volleyball fans in Kaliningrad have an opportunity to see the new Russian women’s team, coached by Yuri Marichev. There are several debutants in the squad this season, including Yana Shcherban, Anastasia Bavykina, Irina Fetisova and Yuliya Podskalnaya. Ekaterina Gamova has also announced her return to the national team, and has started training with her teammates for the FIVB Women's World Championship Italy 2014 from September 23 to October 12.

Russian coach Yuri Marichev said: "In Kaliningrad, we will play at home. We are expecting great things from a full sports hall. We are ready to give our supporters positive emotions."
