Taipei, Chinese Taipei, July 25, 2014 – The culmination of the 17th Asian Women’s U19 Volleyball Championship on Thursday led to the emergence of Korean twin sisters Lee Daeyeong and Lee Jaeyeong to achieve potential star status for their remarkable performance in the competition.

Daeyong won the Best Setter plum, while Jaeyong got the Best Outside Spiker honours. The sister tandem steered Korea to a third place finish.

Jaeyong’s powerful attacks and excellent leadership in the crucial fifth set led Korea to a well-deserved win over Thailand. The win rewarded Korea with the final ticket to the FIVB Women’s U20 World Championship in 2015.

The young stars were born on October 15, 1996, and come from a family of athletes. Their mother, Kim Kyung-Hee was a setter for the Korean national team that participated in the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games, while their father used to be a track and field athlete. They have an elder sister, who is a fencer, and a younger brother who also plays volleyball.

“It was our choice to play volleyball,” said Jaeyong. “We were inspired when we saw a photo of our mother playing volleyball, so we decided to follow her footsteps.”

The twins have also been selected for the senior team and are lined up to play for the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix. Their first World Grand Prix experience will be in their home turf in Suwon, at the Hwasung Sports Complex, against the senior team of Thailand.
