President Graça, Prime Minister Renzi with Carlo Magri, the President of the Italy Volleyball Federation
Florence, Italy, July 18, 2014 - Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi joined FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graca F° at the Nelson Mandela Forum on Friday evening to watch Italy power to a straight sets victory over Australia.

"It's a pleasure to be able to welcome the Italian Prime Minister to the FIVB Volleyball World League Finals," President Graça said. "It shows how much of a volleyball fan he is and it also demonstrates how popular and important volleyball is to the Italian people."

Prime Minister Renzi congratulated
Italy coach Mauro Berruto after the match.

"It was great to be here today with Mauro Berruto and his team," said Renzi after the game. "The match was supposed to be an easy one, but winning is never easy. We made it, and tomorrow we'll be facing Brazil. That will be a tough match.

"Italy has a chance to do great in this tournament, and I am proud of the message they are sending. I am proud of what our team and Italian volleyball is doing, and seeing so many volleyball fans tonight was truly moving.

"As politicians, we should do our best to support sport. This is the message I am sending here tonight, as we prepare together for all the matches we'll face in the upcoming months. I wish Berruto and the Azzurri all the best. Our national team is a landmark for us, both because of its values and because of the quality of its game."
