Host team completes perfect run in China Women's International Tournament

China claim gold medal with an unbeaten record in the four-team tournament

Chenzhou, China, July 5, 2014 – China crushed Thailand in straight sets (25-19, 31-29, 25-20) to complete a perfect run throughout the two legs of the 2014 China Women’s International Tournament on Saturday.

The home team previously scored victories over Dominican Republic 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-12) and Belgium 3-1 (22-25, 25-12, 25-14, 25-19).

Thailand put up strong resistance against the home team in the match. Both teams fought evenly in the beginning until the second technical timeout, where China pounded hard to grab the lead and take the first set. Thailand rallied back from 13-19 and 19-23 in the second set by collecting four points in a row to level the score at 23-all. China still prevailed in the end 31-29 from a spike from Liu Xiaotong and an ace from setter Shen Jingsi. China pounded more and gave no chances to Thailand to make any comeback 25-20.

Meanwhile, Belgium claimed a 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-19) win over Dominican Republic. The Belgians finished the tournament with a 2-1 win-loss record to take second place.

Belgium vs Thailand 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-18)

China vs Belgium 3-1 (22-25, 25-12, 25-14, 25-19)
Thailand vs Dominican Republic 3-2 (25-23, 20-25, 23-25, 25-22, 18-16)

Belgium vs Dominican Republic 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-19)
China vs Thailand 3-0 (25-19, 31-29, 25-20)
