Poland's city of Katowice welcomes FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship Trophy
Katowice, Poland, June 12, 2014 – The FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship Trophy Tour officially began on Thursday in Katowice – the first stop on a tour that will see the trophy visit all the cities hosting matches of the quadrennial international volleyball event.
The trophy was presented to members of the press at a press conference held on Thursday at the Angelo Hotel in Katowice. The coaches and captains of the national teams of Poland and Italy, who are undergoing final preparations for their World League Intercontinental Round match on Friday at Katowice’s Spodek Hall, were also present.
The city of Katowice will host matches in each round of the tournament, including the final phase. The Vice-President of the City of Katowice, Ms. Krystyna Siejna was also in attendance and the trophy was unveiled by the World League Director in Poland, Mr. Wojciech Czayka.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, you are among the first to
see it with your own eyes. Here, in Katowice, this trophy will be given to the
World Championship winners,” said Wojciech Czayka, addressing the media
The World Championship trophy will stay in Katowice until June 13. Members of the public will have the opportunity to view the trophy in a special tent that will be erected in front of the Spodek Hall and will have the opportunity to take in concerts and other events organised around the event. There will also be contests for children and grown-up fans of volleyball to take part in and everyone will have the opportunity to take a picture of themselves with the trophy.
Fans who visit the trophy are invited to use the official hashtag #FIVBTrophy on social media sites to share their selfies and other photos.
FIVB Men’s World Championship Twitter account, @FIVBMensWCH, will be tweeting details of the Trophy Tour, through July 4.
