Mississauga, Canada, May 17, 2014 - Costa Rica finally got the better of Panama in four sets of the NORCECA Men’s World Championship Qualification (Pool Q) action in Canada.

The final score was 3-1 (25-21, 25-20, 23-25, 25-23), with a standout performance by Costa Rica’s Richard Smith Hall with 24 points.  Costa Rica beat Trinidad in a five-set nail-biter yesterday bringing the team’s record to 2-0.

Panama’s Edward Diaz contributed 14 points and Domingo Avila 14 to their team’s strong effort today.

In the last match on Saturday, home-crowd favourites Canada beat Trinidad 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-21). The Canadian men join Costa Rica as the undefeated men’s teams in round-robin play.

Canadian head coach Glenn Hoag tried a different lineup tonight against Trinidad.  In his first official game as a starter Jason DeRocco delivered 17 points as the lead scorer for Canada.  Opposite Dallas Soonias, added 15.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Nolan Tash had five points in this team effort.  The third set proved challenging for both teams, but Canada delighted its fans in Mississauga, near Toronto, for the second night in a row with a decisive win.
