Gdansk actively prepares for the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship Poland 2014

Gdansk, Poland, April 29, 2014 - A press conference was recently held in Gda?sk to provide information on the distribution of tickets for the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship Poland 2014 group C matches, as well as details of the junior high school tournament, the Gda?sk Mini World Championship.

The meeting was opened by Mr. Andrzej Trojanowski, Director of the President’s Bureau of Sports. Following the European Championships and this year’s World League, Mr Trojanowski emphasised that the FIVB World Championships provides yet another opportunity for cooperation between the city of Gda?sk and the Polish Volleyball Federation. City officials have also endorsed a special public transport ticket with the Championship’s logo to help inform Gda?sk’s citizens about this spectacular event.

The Gda?sk Mini World Championship – a tournament for junior high schools in the Pomeranian Voivodeship – will be yet another element of the World Championship promotion.

Details of the project were presented by Micha? Rudnicki of LOTOS Trefl Gda?sk at Tuesday’s meeting. Students will first compete locally in eight city districts (Gda?sk, Gdynia, Pruszcz Gda?ski, Rumia, Malbork, L?bork, Ko?cierzyna, Chojnice) with the best 24 teams advancing to the finals. The final phase will take place in Gda?sk, on the same days as the World Championship matches. Each school team will represent a team taking part in the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship Poland 2014 and the tournament’s formula and schedule will correspond to that of the actual World Championship.

Polish Volleyball Federation Executive Director Wojciech Czayka was also on hand to provide information about the distribution system for World Championship matches at the Ergo Arena.

Gda?sk will host the Group C matches of the tournament, which will see Russia, Bulgaria, Egypt and China, as well as two NORCECA teams play against each other. Each of their national federations will be able to book 10% of the match tickets. Additional ticket distribution points will be opened in Kaliningrad Oblast for Russian fans travelling to Poland’s Tricity to support their players.

Three matches will be played on each day of the tournament. Tickets for the first match, starting 13:30, will cost between PLN 20 and 60. Tickets for the next two matches are sold as a package, with prices varying from PLN 30 to 90. Tickets can be purchased through
