Unilever Volei win ninth Superliga Feminina title

FIVB Women's Club Championship participants Sesi SP were defeated by UnileverVolei in Brazil's Superliga Feminina
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, April 27, 2014 – FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championship Zurich 2014 participants Sesi SP just missed out on the perfect preparation for next month's tournament after losing to Unilever Volei 3-1 (21-11, 21-12, 13-21, 21-16) in the final of Brazil's Superliga Feminina on Sunday in the Maracanãzinho Gymnasium.

With the win, Unilever Volei became the biggest winner in the history of the competition, with nine titles.

“Our win has two components that I consider fundamental,” Unilever coach Bernardo Rezende said. “The work of the athletes individually and together as a group. Our group has solid base and this is the result of that.”

Gabriela Braga Guimaraes led the team with 14 points.

Sesi SP are not deterred from the loss said Sesi captain Fabiana Claudino.

“Few people believed in our team, and believe that Unilever also had this feeling,” she said. “We did not do our best game today, but I'm very happy. Most of our team came to the final for the first time, and the entire coaching staff worked very well. I congratulate our team for working together the whole time.”

Sesi SP will participate in the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship in Zurich, Switzerland from May 7 to 11. The team will compete against Volero Zurich of Switzerland, Japan's Hisamitsu Springs, Dinamo Kazan of Russia and Brazil’s Molico Osasco plus one other participant still to be confirmed.

UnileverVolei won the silver medal at the 2013 FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championship.
