Argentina make clean sweep of titles in friendly matches in Mar del Plata

Mar del Plata, Argentina, April 25, 2014 - Argentina’s women’s junior and boys’ youth teams have won the three-team international friendly tournament held in Mar del Plata beating the teams of Mar Chiquita and Baja California, Mexico.

While the women’s team won their match on the second day they lost their final match in a terrific tie-breaker against Baja California. The boys’ youth team also defeated the teams from Baja California on the last day also in a tie-breaker.

The boys’ youth team and their compatriots from Baja California played a more even match than the one contested a few days earlier between the Argentina youth team and host team Rosario. Argentina won one match 3-0 while Baja California and Mar Chiquita won the other two in a tie-break.

The women's team of Mar Chiquita, which has participated in Argentina’s A1 League for the past two seasons played against Baja California at the Mar del Plata Gym, winning the match 3-2. The Mar Chiquita team came from behind on the fifth set 2-6 to close it 15-10 with the help of an outstanding performance from Virginia Montanelli. She closed the set with 25 points topping the score tables for her side.

The women's host team finished in second place, as the Argentine juniors' team won the first two matches of the tournament taking top place again as they did in Rosario. The Argentine teams made good use of these competitions to prepare themselves for the South American Championships which qualifies the winning team for next year's age-group World Championship.
