Board backs key World Championships
Lausanne, Switzerland, April 4, 2014 – The FIVB Board of Administration gave its full support to what has been heralded as two defining events for the future of volleyball when a presentation on the FIVB Volleyball World Championships 2014, which will take place from August 30 to September 21 in Poland for men and September 23 to October 12 in Italy for women, was completed on Friday.
The representatives of the two host countries - FIVB Executive Board member Miroslaw Przedpelski of Poland and Italian Board of Administration member Renato Arena – explained to the members the vision for the FIVB’s premier volleyball event, which is staged every four years with innovation, modernisation and technology the key principles in making the World Championships a showcase event.
“The World Championships will kick start a unique period of development for volleyball,” FIVb President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° said. “Two and six years out from the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games and Tokyo Olympic Games, this is an opportunity not to be missed.
“The World Championships are a unique advantage to showcase to the world, the potential of volleyball, so we must make every effort to ensure the outstanding success of these two events."
The FIVB Volleyball World Championships 2014 presentation included key initiatives such as a Kids World Championships and for the first time ever - a Trophy Tour. However the guaranteed highlight will be the opening match of the FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship Poland 2014, which will be held in the Poland National Stadium to an expected crowd on 60,000 fans.
Dedicated websites for each competition were presented to the members, which - with multilingual webpages - were already launched at the time of the Drawing of Lots.
