Julio Velasco holds first training session with men's national team of Argentina

 
Velasco, whose coaching career spans more three decades, has also coached Italy’s men’s and women’s national volleyball teams as well as the men’s national teams of Spain and the Czech Republic.

Buenos Aires, Argentina, April 2, 2014 - It is the start of a new chapter for the Argentina men’s national team as new coach Julio Velasco put players through their paces on Tuesday morning in their first training session together ahead of the FIVB World League season.  

Velsaco, who stepped down as coach of the Iran national team in February to helm the Argentine men’s team, has begun the process of evaluation to help move forward with the 2014 international season. This year Argentina will compete in the 28 team line-up for the FIVB World League as well the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship Poland 2014 from August 30 to September 21.

The team will train all week at the Club Ciudad de Buenos Aires Gym with staff members including: Julian Alvares (Assistant coach), Martin Lopez (Assistant), Hernan Ferraro (U23 and Support Team coach), Fernando Locaso and Aldo Bustos (Doctors), Carlos Medeiro (Therapist/Trainer), Oscar Cantero (Assistant), Osvaldo Celia (Manager) and Jose Saucedo (Juniors' Statistician). Also joining the training session later on in the week are Camilo Soto (Assistant) and Federico Fernandez Mentaberry (Statistician).

The players included in this first call are: Federico Martina, Ivan Castellani, Sebastian Closter, Rodrigo Aschemacher, Gaston Giani, Ezequiel Palacios, Javier Vega, Miguel Liand, Gaston Fernandez, Maximiliano Cavanna, Santiago Ca, Juan Finoli and Franco Retamozo. Players Franco Lopez and Tomas Layus will join the group later on in the week.
