Horseed take national volleyball championship title of Somalia

Horseed is the country's most powerful volleyball team

Mogadishu, Saomali, March 31, 2014 - The Somali Volleyball Federation successfully concluded the country’s 26th men’s championship with the Somali military team Horseed winning the title over the weekend.


Horseed defeated Dekedaha by 3-1 in the match played at the Wiish stadium. The match gathered a big number of spectators including Somali NOC executive committee members Haji Mohamed Ahmed Olow and Ibrahim Hussein Ali Rombe.


The Somali Volleyball Federation Secretary General Mohamed Abubakar Hirei, who addressed the closing ceremony, said that volleyball had attracted an increasing interest amongst the Somali people since the federation returned to the world volleyball platform last year.


“On the behalf of the Somali Volleyball Federation I would like to thank Nation Link Telecom, a friendly network company, which donated all the equipment to the participating teams. Without Nation Link Telecom we could not have had such a successful competition,” said Mohamed Abukar Hirei.

“Volleyball is now growing here in Somalia and we are planning to participate in the Zone 5 beach volleyball competition in the near future,” added the Secretary General.


For his part, the Somali Volleyball Federation President Engineer Abdulkader Omar Abukar thanked the President of the CAVB, Dr. Amir Elwani for his commitment ot helping the promotion of volleybal in the country.


“I also would like to thank Executive Directo Mrs Howyda Mondy who assisted in the revival of Somalia’s influence on the African continent as well as the Zone 5 area,” concluded President Abukar.
