Congo record second win as Tunisia continue wins in Men's World Championship qualifier
Tunis, Tunisia, March 5, 2014 - Hosts Tunisia kept their winning rhythm after they cruised past the Seychelles 3-0 (25-19, 25-10, 25-16) on day three of the 2014 Men's World Championship qualification tournament, Pool V held at the Palais des Sports Hall in Tunis, Tunisia on Wednesday. It was the third win a row for the hosts without dropping a set, while Congo Brazzaville record their second victory over Senegal 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-16) to keep chasing the Tunisians for the last African ticket at the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship Poland 2014. Tunisia led the five nation round robin tournament with a win-loss ratio of 3-0 (nine points), followed by Congo Brazzaville 2-0 (five points). Seychelles came third with 1-1 (three points) and Niger fourth 0-2 (one point). Senegal came last with 0-3. The competition on day four will feature two matches as Congo Brazzaville face Seychelles and Niger meet Senegal, while the leaders Tunisia have a rest day. Congo Brazzaville v. Senegal 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-16) Congo Brazzaville played their utmost to overcome Senegal 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-16) in 67 minutes. Congo was the better team in blocking and defence and controlled the game throughout the three sets. Congo improved their win-loss ratio in two matches to 2-0 (five points), while Senegal dropped to 0-3. Opposite attacker Nkouka Abrahys and outside hitter led the match scorers with 15 points each, while Momar Gueye led Senegal's scorers with 14 points. Congo started the match as the better side and succeeded in building up their attack through setter Ndonga Nakavoua who arranged the attacking combinations. Nkouka played his best during the first set to allow his team to win 25-16. Senegal had early lead in the second set after they arranged their defence, but Congo quickly came back to win the set in the same score before they made it 3-0 in 67 minutes Tunisia v. Seychelles 3-0 (25-19, 25-10, 25-16) Tunisia claimed their third tournament victory over Seychelles 3-0 (25-19, 25-10, 25-16) in 59 minutes. Tunisia improved their win-loss ratio to 3-0, while Senegal dropped to 0-3. Veteran Tunisian star Noureddine Hfaiedh and opposite Marouen Garci led the winner's scorers with 13 points, while Seychelles attacker Guy Valentin led his team scorers with 13 points. The first set was the most competitive as the Seychelles succeeded to work well with their blocking with the help of setter Jones Mangroo. Tunisia led 16-14 until the second technical time out before they improved the speed of the game to win the set 25-19. The Seychelles team lost their concentration allowing Tunisia to take the lead and win the second set 25-10 and the third 25-16. The winner of the round robin tournament will earn the third African ticket to the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship Poland 2014 that will take place from August 30 to September 21. Results
