Tunisia ready to host final African qualifier for Men's World Championship
Tunis, Tunisia, March 2, 2014 - Tunisia has begun preparations for last qualification tournament for the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship Poland 2014 to host the five teams of Pool V at the Menzah Hall in Tunis, Tunisia from March 3 to 7, 2014.
The winner of the round robin tournament will earn the third African ticket to the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship Poland 2014 scheduled to take place from August 30 to September 21.
The other two African vacancies to the Men's World Championship were taken by Cameroon after their home win in pool T and Egypt who clinched the title in Pool U in Nairobi.
With one less vacancy, the two countries that will take part in the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship Italy 2014 are Tunisia, winners of Pool U in Nairobi and Cameroon who won Pool T in Algeria early last week.
This week’s Pool V tournament in Tunis will include hosts and favourites Tunisia along with Seychelles, Congo Brazzaville, Senegal and Niger.
The teams have already arrived in Tunis and have begun their training schedule ahead of Monday’s matches.
The opening day will see Senegal face Seychelles at 16:00 and Tunisia play Niger at 18:00.
World No. 13 Tunisia, who leads the African teams in the FIVB ranking are the favourites for the World Championship ticket with their wealth of experience ahead of the other teams.
Tunisia is hoping for their eighth qualification ticket after competing in the World Championships in 1970, 1974, 1978, 2002, 2006 and 2010 while other teams hope for their first ever qualification.
