Two volleyball personalities named Young Ambassadors for Nanjing Youth Olympic Games

Only beach volleyball will be included in the sporting line up for this year's Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing

Lausanne, Switzerland, January 31, 2014 – The IOC has announced a list of 105 Young Ambassadors for the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games, including two from the world of volleyball.

The list features active athletes, sports coaches, students and young professionals, all aged between 18 and 25. The Young Ambassadors all have a desire to live by the Olympic values and to inspire and empower young people to do the same.

Volleyball was represented by Tony Tarraf, director of the Lebanese Volleyball Federation, and sports management student Klara Mejdricka from the Czech Republic.

As well as promoting the Youth Olympic Games and Olympic values, the role of the Young Ambassadors is to help the athletes of their national teams get the most out of their YOG experience.

The Ambassadors will encourage the athletes to interact with people from different sports and backgrounds, to soak up new cultures and to take part in a unique programme of activities and workshops, featuring sessions on healthy eating, injury prevention, anti-doping, careers in sport and media training.

The second edition of the Summer Youth Olympic Games will be held from August 16 to 28 in Nanjing, China and it will be the first time beach volleyball will be included in the sporting line-up.

Beach volleyball will make its debut at the Youth Olympics next year as it was not included at the inaugural edition of the Games in Singapore in 2010, where only the indoor version of the sport was held.

The Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing will see the participation of over 3,600 athletes and will include 28 Olympic sports.

Cuba's boys' national team won gold at the Youth Olympic Games in 2010 while Belgium took the title in the girls' competition
