Social media abuzz for World Championship draw
During the drawing of lots there was an estimated 120 tweets per hour, the draw had a reach of over a million and registered 3.8 million impressions relating to the event as fans found out who their favourite team would face in the tournament that runs from August 30-September 21.
Poland were drawn in Pool A with Argentina and Serbia among their five pool opponents, three-time defending champions Brazil were drawn with Germany and Korea to name but two, while Olympic champions and FIVB World League winners Russia will face Bulgaria and China in Pool C.
Polish fans were quick to claim that they were in the most difficult pool, with @nicole_reike tweeting, “Here’s something to enjoy, the Poles are in the most difficult group”.
Pool D meanwhile features Olympic bronze medallists Italy up against Iran, France and Belgium as well as the highest and fourth ranked NORCECA teams.
“Why do we always draw Iran? Do they do it on purpose? It is a very challenging pool, but we’ll make it”, Italy fan Francesca@cescab88 tweeted.
They were sentiments matched by the Iranian Volleyball Federation, @iranvolleyball who tweeted; “Iran will play with Italia, most possible USA, France, Belgium and NORCECA 4 in the toughest Group”.
