Double Thai joy at SEA Games

Thailand's women continued their dominance at the SEA Games
Naypyidaw, Myanmar, December 22, 2013 – Thailand’s women and men’s teams have both successfully defended their South-East Asian Games titles.

The women defeated Vietnam 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-18) for a ninth consecutive SEA title to complete a year in which they finished 13th in this year’s FIVB World Grand Prix.

“We worked very hard,” head coach Kiattipong Radchatakriengkrai said. “Our new players also played well.  It is great to win gold and I would like to thank all the supporters.”

“One of the best things is that young players were given the chance to play,” captain Wiliwan Apinyapong added, “They showed their talent and can be a great asset for us in the future.

“We will be busy next year with several events including the Asian Games. We really want to win gold at the Asian Games.”

The men won consecutive titles for the first ever time and their seventh in total with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-21) victory over Indonesia.

“Indonesia were stronger than before, but we were still the better side,” Jirayu Raksakaew said.
