Palestine holds Premier League volleyball tournament

Palestinian volleyball star Omar Foqaha takes part in a Premier League match on Friday
Lausanne, Switzerland, December 1, 2013 – As the popularity of volleyball continues to grow in Palestine, a league premier tournament was held Friday in Ramallah. 

Palestine’s No. 1 player Omar Foqaha was among those who took part in the Premier League tournament in Ramallah. Other matches took place in Tulkarem.

The venue in Ramallah was decorated with photos of Palestinian sporting heroes.

With the FIVB's support, the Palestine Volleyball Federation has set out some ambitious plans, which includes putting the country on the international volleyball map. Previous events in Palestine have included the Volley All Festival, which saw thousands of young people get together to play volleyball in the cities, public parks or other locations used by the local community. 

Earlier in the year, a coaches course brought together 20 participants with the objective of supporting the volleyball community in Palestine.
