Cameroon, DR Congo advance to final phase of Women's World Championship qualification
Kinshasa, RD Congo, November 9, 2013 - Cameroon and DR Congo secured their tickets to the final phase of the 2014 FIVB Women's World Championship qualification process after they finished in first and second positions respectively at zone 4 (Pool P) tournament held at the Stade des Marthyrs in Kinshasa, November 2 to 6.
The Cameroon women emerged victorious in their matches against Congo Brazzaville 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-11) and DR Congo 3-0 (25-19, 25-10, 25-20) to win the gold medal and proceed to the final phase where they will be drawn in Pool 1.
Host DR Congo earned the silver medal after beating Congo Brazzaville 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-19) and also proceed to Pool 1 of the final phase of the qualification process.
The top two teams from zone 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 will join zone 1 and 7 champions in the final phase. The 12 teams will be joined by the top two African teams in the FIVB Ranking for a total of 14 teams to be divided into two final pools. The champions of each pool will secure their tickets to the 2014 FIVB Women's World Championship in Italy.
