Kampala, Uganda, October 18, 2013 - Former African champions Egypt registered their first win against Tanzania on the second day of the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship Group Q qualifiers at the MTN Arena Lugogo in Uganda. Kenya also stretched their lead against the others with a sweep of Uganda.

With day two's end, Kenya improved their win/loss ratio to 2-0, while Egypt and Uganda became 1-1 and Tanzania dropped to 0-2.

Kenya already secured a ticket to the finals as the top ranked African team in the FIVB ranking and will be joined by the top two teams from this tournament.

Egypt v Tanzania 3-0 (25-10, 25-16, 26-24)

Egypt had an easy ride with a 3-0 (25-10, 25-16, 26-24) victory over Tanzania.

It took coach Mohamed Hesham Badrawy's team just 21 minutes to claim the first set with a 25-10 score line margin where power attacker Aya El Shamy took the majority points.

The trend was replicated in the second set that lasted 22 minutes. This time round, Tanzania bettered the set score with 16, but still ended up on the losing side 25-16.

Come the last set, Tanzania improved and nearly claimed the set but inexperience at the big stage cost them. They led almost the entire set with a margin of at least two points until they collapsed at the end, Egypt winning 26-24.

"I am prepared for the last game against Uganda. We surely need to qualify," said Egypt's coach, Hesham Badrawy after the victory.

Uganda v Kenya 0-3 (22-25, 22-25, 21-25)

Kenya defeated Uganda in straight sets 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-21) to record their second victory in the qualifiers in 82 minutes.

Playing as underdogs, Uganda had their moments in a game where short players like Saidat Nnungi, Eunice Amorun scored by blocking seasoned superstars, Evelyne Makuto and Mercy Moim.

Kenya worked for every set, as Uganda’s libero Flavia Ndawula covered well, and setters Eunice Nuwabigaba and Vero Nyiramugisa kept the Kenyan defense on edge.

“They (Uganda) are improving each day that goes by, in no time they will be better than Ivory Coast, Senegal or even Seychelles, countries that have been playing volleyball for a long time,” said Kenya’s coach David Lung’aho.

Kenya is scheduled to play Tanzania in the final on Saturday. The match will decide who advances as Zone Five winners.
