Three men's, one women's team secures ticket to African World Championship Qualifier finals
Cairo, Egypt, October 18, 2013 - The fight for places in the final round of the African qualifications for the 2014 FIVB World Championships are getting more exciting in both men and women tournaments.
The qualifications started in early October, in Mauritius with zone 7 qualifiers, where Seychelles emerged victorious in both men and women qualifiers after beating the hosts.
Host Botswana also clinched both zone 6 tickets to the finals of the Men's qualifier after they ended their campaign as first and second in the 6 Nations tournament.
Zone 5 Women's qualifications will resume the programme in Uganda this week where host Uganda beside African champions Kenya, Egypt and Tanzania will fight for two tickets for the finals beside the Kenya, who already qualified as one of the top two teams in Africa at the FIVB World Ranking.
Later, Zambia will host the 6 Nations Women's Zone 6 tournament from October 22 to 26, where organizers beside Botswana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Mozambique and Namibia will fight for two berths to the finals.
Niger also hosts Zone 3 Men's qualification tournament October 24 to 26 where they compete with Ghana, Nigeria and Burkina Faso for two vacancies.
Zone 5 Men's qualification tournament will be held in Rwanda starting from October 22 where African champions Egypt will battle it out against the organizers, Burundi and Uganda to determine two qualifiers to the finals. Egypt had automatic ticket to the finals as one of the top three African teams in the FIVB World Ranking.
The winners of the Zone 1 and 7 - beside the winners and runner up of Zones 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 - clinch their tickets to January's qualifier finals, making 12 teams who will be joined by the top three African countries in the FIVB World ranking in Men's qualifications and the top two women's team in the FIVB ranking.
The qualified 15 countries from the Men's tournaments will be divided into three pools of five, where the three winners secure their tickets to the finals of the FIVB World Championship.
The 14 teams who will make their way to the women's finals will be divided into two pools of seven, where the winners of each confirm their tickets to the 2014 FIVB Volleyball World Championships in Poland.
