South American teams set for World Champs qualifier
San Juan, Argentina, October 18, 2013 – With the CSV 2014 Women's World Championship Qualification Tournament set to start Friday, the participating teams have their hopes set on earning the one remaining spot allocated to South America for next year’s big event in Italy.
Argentina, Peru and Colombia hope to join Brazil - who won the South American Championship and the first CSV spot for the 2014 World Championships - next year in Italy. Argentina in particular is hoping to earn a place in the competition after its last participation in 2002.
The matches will be played at the Aldo Cantoni Stadium where Peru and Colombia will play on Friday at 20:00. Argentina will play its first match on Saturday at 18:00 and will play against Peru on Sunday at 21:00.
Argentina's coaching team coaching team headed by Guillermo Orduma will choose among the 14 players who will be at the tournament. They are Lucia Gaido, Yamila Nizetich, Sol Piccolo, Lucía Fresco, Daniela Gildenberger, Natalia Aispurua, Emilce Sosa, Viviana Dominko, Florencia Busquets, Leticia Boscacci, Tatiana Rizzo, Josefina Fernandez, Antonela Curatola and Yael Castiglione.
Peru meanwhile will participate with 13 players. Their roster includes setters Shiamara Almeida, Zoila La Rosa and Alexandra Muñoz; middle players Yulissa Zamudio, Clariveth Illescas and Mirtha Uribe; opposite player Raffaella Camet; wing spikers Karla Ortiz, Angélica Aquino, Ángela Leyva and Grecia Herrada; two liberos, Vanessa Palacios and Fatima Acosta.
While the Colombia team has not unveiled their roster, it is though that spiker Madelayne Montaño will be taking part in the competition as well as several of the players that travelled to Colombia to the South American Competition. These players include Yuranny Romaña, Martha Nieva, Mery Mancilla and Lorena Zuletar, who also participated in Argentina, Tortuguitas at the qualification tournament in 2009.
The Peruvian channel (www.frecuencialatina.com) will broadcast the matches in San Juan through their website while Sunday's match will also be broadcasted by TyC Sports.
