Four World Championship and two Grand Champions Cup places up for grabs

Lausanne, Switzerland, September 26, 2013 – Four FIVB Volleyball World Championships 2014 places and two FIVB Volleyball Grand Champions Cup Japan 2013 vacancies will be decided over the next five days as the next round of AVC qualifiers gets underway this weekend and the CEV and NORCECA Continental Championships reach their climax.

The Asian Women’s Qualification Tournament Final (Pool B), which will take place in China from September 27 to October 1, will determine the last two of the four AVC countries that will take part in the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship Italy 2014. China, Korea, Kazakhstan, New Zealand and India are the Pool B teams hoping to secure their spot in Italy. Next year’s tournament will see the participation of 24 countries from across the five continents, and when the two AVC vacancies are filled after the continental qualifier, the total number of qualified countries will stand at seven.

The winner of the 2013 CEV Men’s Volleyball European Championship will be determined on Sunday as the remaining teams battle it out on the courts for the coveted European title, which qualifies the winner automatically for the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship Poland 2014 as well as the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Champions Cup in Japan this November. The team in second place is also guaranteed a ticket to the World Championships next year.

The 2013 Men’s Volleyball European Championship will decide two of the eight European teams that will join hosts Poland at the World Championships next year and will bring the number of qualified teams, from across the different continents, up to ten.

On the World Grand Champions Cup front, the NORCECA Men’s Continental Championship, currently playing out in Langley (Canada) will decide the country that will join hosts Japan, Brazil and the team from the CEV in Japan this November.

Meanwhile, the AVC Men’s Continental Championship will begin Saturday and end October 6 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates to decide the second AVC country that will take part in the tournament.

This AVC Men’s Continental Championship will bring to an end the Grand Champions Cup qualifiers, leaving only the FIVB/JVA/NTA selections to be made for both the men’s and women’s competition.
