Chile and CSV to join together for volleyball development

There are currently 40 students preparing to play in their first mini-volleyball tournament to be held in the municipality of Cerro Navia in August.

Santiago, Chile, August 16, 2013 - The Chile Volleyball Federation have put forward a project to the South American Confederation (CSV) to create a Volleyball Development Centre with the objective of enhancing and training young volleyball players in districts with high social risk factors.

Since March, Desiderio Farias (FIVB Level III international coach) has been responsible for the local Development Centre, which currently operates in the Cerro Navia and Pudahuel communes of the nation’s capital, Santiago.

Activities at the Centre take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with each including the participation of 20 girls between 10 and 13 years.

Farias has been impressed with the high motivation shown by these girls. As he said, "I see a lot of motivation, because until now they never had done a project in this area, which includes the communes of Cerro Navia and Pudahuel. In Cerro Navia there are former players, who are also mothers who send their daughters to the Centre while they work.”

One of the long team aims of the Centre and of Farias is to see some of the young player invited to train at the Olympic Training Centre.
