Nairobi, Kenya, July 30, 2013 - Kenya beat Egypt 3-1 (25-17, 25-15, 18-25, 25-22) to win the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championships Africa Qualification Tournament Pool H on the last day of action on Tuesday.
The win saw Kenya finish the five nation tournament unbeaten with four wins from as many matches while the loss saw Egypt drop their first match to finish second with a 3:1 win:loss record.
Bronze medallists Uganda joined Kenya and Egypt in advancing to the zonal phase of the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championships Africa qualification process to be held in October and November.
The match between Kenya and Egypt - two old rivals - lived up to its billing as the “Clash of the Titans” and did not disappoint the hundreds of fans who thronged in to the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani.
Kenya took charge of the match from the onset, winning with ease the first two sets 25-17 and 25-15. However, Egypt had other ideas in the third set in which they came out strongly to open a huge 8-1 lead at the time of the first Technical Time Out (TTO) and going on to win the set with a score of 25-18.
In the fourth set, Kenya regained control and like Egypt in the third set led 8-1 at the first Technical Time Out before Egypt fought back to tie the score at 18-18 and take the lead at 21-20 before Kenya recovered to win the set at 25-22.
